The Error Checker Tool identifies certain COBOL logic errors that are not detected
by COBOL compilers. These logic errors can be time consuming to identify and
can cause unpredictable program results.
The Error Checker Tool checks for COBOL logic errors
including:
- Overlapping exits in PERFORM statement.
This happens when a
PERFORM THRU statement inadvertently names an exit point that is
the same as the exit point for another PERFORM. This sometimes happens
when logic from one paragraph is copied to another paragraph.
- GOTO statement that navigates to a point beyond the range of a
PERFORM statement.
- Circular references in PERFORM statements can cause a never-ending loop.
